ifm's PIM Series Pump Diagnosic Pressure Sensors Wins Flow Control Magazine's Product Innovation Award

Featured in the September 2008 issue of Flow Control Magazine, the PIM Pump Diagnostic Pressure Sensor earned most compelling new technology for fluid handling systems design. The PIM sensor detects potential pump damage caused by cavitation, trapped air or gas, blockages and deposits. The pressure sensor continuously monitors a pump to provide system pressure and independent diagnosis of the pump's condition.

The compact sensor measures the high-frequency pulsations of a properly operating pump and stores it as a reference. If changes occur in the system, the pulsations will change. These changes are immediately detected by the sensor. If a critical pump condition occurs, such as cavitation, the PIM Series pressure sensor will provide an alarm signal to a plc. Any disturbances around the pump such as trapped air in the medium, clogged filters, deposits in pipes or improperly opened valves are also monitored.

The condition-based monitoring of the pump leads to longer maintenance intervals. The up-time of the complete plant is increased – damage caused by poor operating conditions of the pump is avoided.
