Part-Seated Monitor Detects Gap Distance as Small as 0.02 mm and Operates on Less Than 17 psi of Supply Pressure ifm efector’s PS Series part-seated monitor continuously monitors nozzle-to-part distance in applications such as gap detection, workpiece positioning, part present and part distance measurement. Operating on less than 17 psi of supply pressure, the part-seated monitor uses backpressure measurement to generate a distance signal. The monitor operates on compressed air and provides two user-established outputs. An integrated 4-digit LED display continuously indicates nozzle-to-part distance. The display features two line segments that represent nozzle and workpiece. The line segments move from left to right providing a continuous visual display of gap distance. Air lines extend to nozzles that are used to detect the part. By turning the fine-adjustment setup wheel, application parameters are established and the monitor is ready for operation. The monitor automatically compensates for changing supply pressure. To guard against unauthorized adjustments, tamper-proof locking options are incorporated. The monitor provides a dual switching output, programmable normally open or normally closed, PNP or NPN. One output is used for part present; the second output can provide warning indications including nozzle blockage or wirebreak. For manifold mounting, multiple units can be banked together to share the same compressed air line.
