ifm is the leading manufacturer of inductive proximity switches holding the e1 type approval
by the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (German Federal Office for Motor Traffic).
The e1 type
approval by the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt certifies compliance with the EMC regulations for road vehicles.
Units with this type approval are allowed to be mounted on vehicles without affecting the vehicles' operating
permit. This approval has been mandatory in EC member states for EMC relevant components installed in
vehicles for public road traffic since 01/10/02. To obtain the e1 type approval the units must comply with
the special EMC conditions for noise emission and noise immunity.
The units meet additional requirements for mobile use: The extended temperature range
covers 40°C to +85°C. Due to their protection rating IP69 K / IP67 the sensors can also be used for
high-pressure cleaning.
Special environmental tests such as the salt spray test,
temperature/humidity cycles and rapid temperature changes must not affect the function of the
units. The robust housing for mobile use features a high shock and vibration resistance.
Beyond the required EMC limit value of the e1 type approval all units have an extremely
high EMC resistance of 100 V/m and withstand without problem pulses from the on-board
vehicle supply system.
Selected inductive proximity switches, pressure sensors and the R360 mobile
controller of ifm electronic meet these requirements for mobile use and hold the e1 type approval.
The following proximity switches for example have been approved:
