Safety Sensors and Safety Relay

ifm introduces a non-contact, fail-safe inductive sensor and multi-function relay approved for safety applications

In the past, traditional inductive proximity switches could not be rated for safety applications. ifm's one-piece, fail-safe sensor replaces the traditional two-piece safety switch by integrating ifm's patented, non-contact inductive sensing principle that is rated up to Category 4 for safety applications. Similar to an inductive proximity sensor, ifm's fail-safe sensors can detect any standard metal target such as stainless or mild steel.

ifm's fail-safe inductive sensor…

  • Eliminates the need to purchase a coded magnet or keyed target.
  • Maintains a higher tolerance to misalignment between the target and sensor due to an extended sensing range.
  • Provides the ability to solve applications where false signals are generated by shock and vibration.
  • Has a high protection rating that enables a longer life cycle and reduces the amount of downtime even in the harshest environments.

In addition, a new multi-functional safety relay is now available and is compatible with ifm's safety sensors and other various safety devices including emergency stops, light curtains, two-handed controls, and mechanical switches. All of these safety products can be monitored with one relay. This eliminates the need for different types of safety relays and reduces relay stock levels.
